My Story: I first started dancing when I was about 16 years old. I had competed in youth ballroom starting at age 8 in International Latin, and was looking for something different. It was a new experience not having everything choreographed. You could actually put your own style into it, get creative. No rules! I'm not a rules gal. I was a little shy the first time I went out to Memories because everyone was so good! Soon.. I was going out every night! My summers were the best because I was living back at home, and had easy access to the OC and LA venues. One summer I had a job at Barnes & Noble when who else was my manager, but Peter Flahiff. We would dance in the break room on our lunch break, and he'd teach me some mad charleston, and when he was helping with the Atomic Ballroom opening, I was there on opening night just to play around with Peter's smooth moves. He was my first favorite guy to dance with! After I expanded out to LA, moved off to college, I always had ups and downs. Sometimes I would be there every night, and when school got busy, I'd disappear for a few months. But Lindy hop was always there for me when I need a release, or had a long day! It's a universal language that everyone can understand. Transcends race, country, culutre..and you can't go wrong if you just smile =D!
Now I hope anyone who reads this joins me in supporting autism research through the yearly swing dance I put on that raises money for the cause. www.ARandT.org/swingjam
